Join the Sejat Spirit and Scic Pow Wow

The Sejat Spirit and SCIC Pow Wow are celebrating family and traditions from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sunday at Heritage Park, 12100 Mora Ave. There will be a special honoring of two elders: Henry Hale and Carol Romero.

Visit Cirque Du Soleil at the Santa Monica Pier

The city of Pico Rivera's Trips and Tours Program is offering a trip to see the return of Cirque du Soleil from 4 to 11:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 19 at the Santa Monica Pier for its performance of "KOOZA." Upon arrival, participants will have time to stroll the Santa Monica Pier before the 8 p.m. performance.

Former Brea-Olinda High Student Graduates Rotc at Fort Knox

Jacob J. Curtis has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky. The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to the ultimate goal of becoming an Army officer. College students experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation to serve in the Army or ROTC, and are eligible to receive two-year college scholarship offers and attend the Advanced ROTC Course at their college.

Water Board to Weigh Contract with Relative

The board of a regional water district will consider Tuesday night whether to renew a consulting contract awarded to the board president's brother-in-law. The Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District will vote on a two-year, $240,000 contract extension for Henry Barbosa, who is married to the sister of board president Al Contreras.

Bicyclist Breaks Neck in Fall

LA MIRADA - A bicyclist was seriously injured Tuesday when he was thrown from his bike while trying to cross a creek. Doctors said the 72-year-old Fullerton man broke his neck in two places, according to sheriff's Lt. John Gannon.

Incumbents Lead in La Habra Heights, Orchard Dale Water Races; Challengers Lead in Pico Water Board

NORWALK - With only absentee ballots counted, incumbents were leading challengers in La Habra Heights and Orchard Dale water board races. But three challengers were leading in the race for the Pico Water Board. In the Pico Water District - where three seats are at stake, challengers Adrian Diaz, 41, Victor Caballero, 48, and James Roybal, 56, were leading incumbent Antonio Martinez, 49, challenger Victoria Aguilera Galarza, 50, and incumbents Salvador Orozco, and Andy Gonzalez, 88.

Five of Six Incumbents Leadin in Norwalk-La Mirada El Rancho School Board Races

NORWALK - Five of six incumbents on the El Rancho and Norwalk-La Mirada unified school district boards of education were leading Tuesday with only absentee ballots counted as of press time. The one exception was El Rancho incumbent Lupe Salas who was losing to challenger Rachel Canchola, 50, and incumbents Joe Rivera, 51, and Rita Jo Ramirez. Also losing was challenger Lorraine Morales De La O, 62.

Measure Tr Takes Strong Lead

PICO RIVERA - Absentee ballots showed a strong lead for Measure TR, which will lower the city's utility tax by a half-percent. The measure led with only absentee ballots counted at press time.

Incumbents Lead in Whittier Area School Board Elections

Whittier-area school board incumbents were leading in early election returns Tuesday night in four districts: Little Lake City, Los Nietos, South Whittier and Whittier City. "It's an exciting thing," said Linda Small, the front-runner in early returns for the Whittier City School District board of education. She was trailed by incumbents Ken Henderson and Efrain Aceves.

Armenta, Camacho Lead in Pico Rivera Race

Pico Rivera City Councilman Ron Beilke trailed in his re- election bid Tuesday night, while archrival incumbent David Armenta and challenger Gustavo Camacho led in early returns. "It just shows the people are demanding and want accountability, honesty and transparency in City Hall, and I think they deserve no less," Armenta said.

Molinari, Two Newcomers Take Early in Montebello

MONTEBELLO - Longtime Councilman Bill Molinari and two challengers took early leads for three open City Council seats Tuesday night. Molinari, Art Barajas and Frank Gomez led after early returns. Mayor Rosie Vasquez trailed them.
