Four Arrested in La Habra Heights Assault Case
LA HABRA HEIGHTS - Deputies using a helicopter tracked down and arrested four suspected gang members for allegedly threatening and pointing a gun at a group of teens early Tuesday morning. Sheriff's Lt. John McBride said a teen was also robbed during the 12:30 a.m. incident at a mini plateau at the end of Punta Del Este Drive. He only said the robbers took personal property but didn't elaborate.

Join the South Whittier Educate Celebrate Festival
The Third Annual South Whittier Educate Celebrate Festival will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Adventure County Park, 10130 South Gunn Ave. There will be live entertainment all day, free groceries, free haircuts, parenting classes, a mobile blood drive, petting zoo, free immunizations, free dental, vision and hearing checks, arts and crafts, free food, a kids' zone, resource booths and more.
Spaces Available at Pico Rivera Community Garden
For those with a green thumb but limited or no gardening space, the Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking registration to lease a plot of land in the Pico Rivera Community Garden on Beverly Road. Once a dry, grassy field, the Community Garden is now a haven for gardening enthusiasts who want to plant fruits, vegetables or seasonal flowers.
East Whittier Schools Get $162,000 Anti-Tobacco Grant
EAST WHITTIER - The East Whittier City School District will get a $162,400 anti-tobacco state grant to help keep middle-schoolers from lighting up, while also giving teen smokers access to local programs to kick the habit for good. EWCSD was the only elementary school district in Los Angeles County this year to receive the Tobacco-Use Prevention Education funds, which used to be doled out to every public school district, said Amy Larson, East Whittier's director of student services.

The city of Norwalk nears the end of the summer concert season with another concert at 7 p.m. tonight on the City Hall lawn, 12700 Norwalk Blvd. This week "Danny Dean and the Homewreckers" will be performing rockabilly music.
Whittier City Council Challenger Spends More Than $40,000 for April 2010 Race
WHITTIER - It's less than a year away from next year's City Council election in April, but challenger Mike Delgado already has spent $42,858 on his campaign. Some of the money has come from his mother, who loaned him $15,000 a year ago. Delgado also has given $7,650 and loaned another $5,100 to the campaign, according to campaign finance reports filed with the Whittier City Clerk's Office this week.

Officials Hold Off On Charging Whittier Stabbing Suspect
WHITTIER - Deputies say they will cite one suspect in a weekend party stabbing who remains in the hospital. Sheriff's Sgt. Ismael Sanchez said this gives authorities more time to investigate the case. In addition, he said the suspect, 20- year-old Carlos Lizama of Whittier, can't appear in court yet because of his injuries.
La Habra Heights Council to Consider Allowing Communications Tower Remain Another 10 Years
LA HABRA HEIGHTS - The City Council Thursday will consider whether to allow a 38-year-old, 254-foot-tall communications tower remain in existence. The Planning Commission already gave approval to a 10-year extension for the tower, 16700 Skyline Drive, that is owned by Coast Communications College District.
Diamond Bar Mother Disarms Robber, Kicks Him Down the Stairs
DIAMOND BAR - A woman confronted by a masked intruder fought back by taking his weapon and kicking him down a flight of stairs while her daughter called 9-1-1, officials said Tuesday. Deputies released more details about a home invasion robbery early Monday in the 2000 block of Rusty Spur Road in a gated community called The Country.
Former Monrovia 'Tax Doctor' Facing More Charges
PASADENA - A man already charged with embezzling money from the clients of his tax preparation firm was charged Tuesday with three more felony counts stemming from the same investigation. Mark Colasuonno, former owner of the Tax Doctor in Monrovia, appeared in court Tuesday for the start of his trial but was arrested, handcuffed and led away after prosecutors filed several new counts against him.
