Summary


California has learned important lessons from Hurricane Katrina, officials say, and in the year since the Gulf Coast disaster those lessons have trickled down to the local level.

Thousands of city employees - ranging from city managers to librarians - are trained in state and federal guidelines for emergency preparedness, said Brenda Hunemiller, disaster management area coordinator for the Office of Civil Defense and Disaster Management.
