Copper Thieves Cause Outage

Summary


More than 19,500 Southern California Edison customers in West Whittier and Pico Rivera lost power for a little more than three hours Monday after thieves stole 300 feet of copper wire from a substation.

A crew doing a maintenance check at the substation at 9900 Beverly Blvd. in Pico Rivera discovered the theft at 1:34 p.m., according to Edison spokesman Steve Conroy.
