Summary


After complaints that publicly funded hospitals are swamped with mentally ill patients, Los Angeles County supervisors voted unanimously Tuesday to spend $7.2 million on psychiatric emergency services.

The number of patients going to psychiatric emergency rooms has grown by 16 percent in the past year and now totals about 2,000 people a month.
