It's the founding church of Whittier, and more than a century old. There was a time when it boasted upward of 300 members. While a service at First Friend's Church may only see 50 people scattered throughout the pews nowadays, new pastor Becky Rees Memmelaar remains optimistic about its future and is approaching the job with an open ear.

"I feel like my first goal is to get to know people and listen. I don't feel it would be good for me to come in with an agenda and say we're going to have X amount of Bible studies," Memmelaar said.
