WHITTIER - The deadline is near for child care providers to apply for some of the extra $45 million in state funds available for pre- kindergarten programs located near low-performing public elementary schools.

Of the $45 million available - made possible through legislation, AB 172, signed into law last fall - more than $13 million is scheduled to come into Los Angeles County to help serve as many as 4,000 4-year-old preschoolers, said Supervisor Gloria Molina.
