POMONA - A man was convicted of fatally shooting a Whittier resident following a June 27, 2007 confrontation in Bassett, officials said Thursday.

A jury on Wednesday found Phillip Anthony Esparza guilty of the second degree murder of Frankie Acosta, 50, and the attempted murder of Acosta's brother, Johnnie, according to Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office.
