Mars Rover Begins Mission Exploring Victoria Crater

LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE - The Mars rover Opportunity, sidelined for more than two months by life-threatening dust storms, began a bold new mission this week as it started a descent into Victoria Crater.

"We drove down into the crater about 20 feet, and we're heading toward our first science target right now," John Callas, project manager for the rovers, said Friday.
