Sierra Club Opposes Whittier Oil-Drilling Proposal

WHITTIER - The Sierra Club has come out in opposition to Matrix Oil Co.'s proposal to drill for oil on seven acres in the Whittier Hills while another has said the plan would violate the city's general plan and zoning codes.

"It will have a major impact on the (Puente-Chino Hills) wildlife corridor," said Eric Johnson, chairman of the Puente-Chino Hills Task Force who co-wrote the comments with Joan Licari, chairwoman of the San Gabriel Valley Task Force. Both are branches of the Angeles chapter of the club.
