WHITTIER - Due to a jump in car burglaries and thefts from vehicles, Whittier police started passing out postcards and fliers last week telling residents to lock their cars and not to leave valuables in plain view.

Whittier police spokesman Officer Mike Dekowski said the campaign is to educate the public about the hike in burglaries and thefts plus reduce the risk of people becoming victims.
