EAST WHITTIER - The offer of $50 to buy clothes for the new school year seemed to good to be true for local parent Dora Davila, a part-time assembly worker who has been struggling to support her two children during the economic recession.

But the $50 Target store voucher was a real gift indeed. And as she stood in the girls' clothing department Wednesday, watching her daughter excitedly search for shirts and pants, a grateful Davila was nearly at a loss for words.
